Tata Steel to revamp utility infra with Rs 300 crore in JSR – ET Infra

JAMSHEDPUR: The Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TS UISL) has laid a roadmap for augmenting the drinking water, sewerage system, road connectivity and power supply in the urban circle at a cost of Rs 300 crore for the expansion of the existing infrastructure and adding on new facilities with a deadline of 24 months.

TS UISL MD Rituraj Sinha said increasing urbanisation in the surrounding of the Tata Steel command area has driven the company to go for expansion of the basic civic amenities. The TS UISL will give 3000 new electricity connections to the household, which is in addition to the 20400 new connections given in the settlements, said company in press release on Thursday evening, following interaction with the media.

New power sub-stations are being installed in the slums of Bagunnagar, Chandinagar, Sidu Kanu Basti, Jhabri Basti, Das Basti and Sonari Nala Basti for the supply of electricity to the new units.

Further, the capacity of the Golmuri sub-station and Sakchi sub-station will be doubled, the released said.

The MD said new roads will be constructed from Ramdas Bhatta to Hanuman mandir, Sakchi jail chowk to MGM hostel, Azadbasti to Cement Plant Road, Nildih roundabout to ISWP company gate and Bag-e-Jamshed to Jubilee park gate.

The road between Sakchi roundabout to Baridih is presently being constructed. Besides, road construction work is in progress at Kadani road behind Mercy hospital in Baridih. Besides, out of 23 black spots identified in the urban circle, 20 have been removed while work on remaining three is going on.

The work for providing clean water to the slums in Babudih basti and Jojobera basti is going on while water service in Makdamp basti, Domuhani and Ramjanamnagar has been started.

In non-Tata Steel command area, a total of 4,700 new water connections in the Jamshedpur West and 2,500 new connections in the Jamshedpur East have been given this year, the MD said. Besides, 2706 new water connections has been given in the Tata’s command area.

The civic amenities services will be linked with geographic information system to help people access and understand the system sitting at home while realtime monitoring and management of services will also be done hasle free, Sinha said.
