NEW DELHI: Engineering and construction company Tata Projects will undertake the construction of an advanced semiconductor assembly and test plant in Sanand, Gujarat, for Micron Technology, an Idaho-based memory solutions company.
In June, Micron Technology unveiled its plans for undertaking a new semiconductor assembly and test facility in India, which will result in an investment of up to $825 million over the two phases of the project and create up to 5,000 new jobs.
“Through this classic venture, we are not just building a state-of-the-art semiconductor assembly and test plant; we are laying the foundation for India’s technological prowess on the global stage.” said Vinayak Pai, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Tata Projects.
“Situated in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation area of Chaarodi, Sanand, the project spans an expansive 93 acres of land. This enduring project is a significant milestone and the largest investment under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The construction of Phase 1 will include a 500,000 square feet cleanroom space, scheduled to be operational by late 2024,” Tata Projects said in a statement
The new investment and facility will benefit from the government’s ‘Modified Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) Scheme’, with the company receiving 50% fiscal support for the total project cost from the Central government and incentives of about 20% of the total project cost from the Government of Gujarat. The combined investment will be about $2.75 billion.
