One side of Kashedi tunnel on Mumbai-Goa highway opens for traffic – ET Infra


MUMBAI: Ahead of the Ganeshotsav, Mumbaikars travelling to Konkan area will save around an hour as one side of crucial Kashedi Ghat tunnel on Mumbai-Goa highway has been opened for the traffic.

Similarly, 90% of the concreting work on the Goa-bound single lane has been completed. Announcements to this effect were made by Maharashtra PWD minister Ravindra Chavhan after supervising the ongoing works on the highway on Tuesday. He also inaugurated the one-side tunnel.

Motorists would take 45 minutes to cross Kashedi Ghat section between Bhogav in Poladpur taluka of Raigad district and Kashedi in Khed taluka of Ratnagiri district. With the new 2km tunnel, motorists will be able to cross the same distance in 10 minutes, said a PWD release.

Over three lakh motorists take to the highway during the festival. This time, the commute is expected to start from September 15. During the festivities, civic amenities such as first-aid, refreshments, police help, rest rooms will be made available every 15 km for the motorists.
