Noida airport project reaches Aligarh border as UP adds 1,200 hectares – ET Infra

NOIDA: The UP government has decided to increase the size of the Noida International Airport (NIA) and aviation hub by 1,200 hectares, taking the total area to be developed to over 7,750 hectares.

With the addition of this land chunk, the airport’s boundary will extend to the borders of Aligarh district, where a multimodal logistics park has been proposed. It will also pave the way to make NIA, already poised to become the largest airport in the country, the third largest globally after King Fahad International Airport in Saudi Arabia and Denver International Airport in the USA.

A proposal for the expansion of the airport and the aviation hub has been submitted by Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL), a government body to execute the airport project, and the changes will be integrated into the Master Plan 2041 before it is sent to the state government for approval.

“The proposed land will be used for the aviation hub’s expansion, with a focus on allotting land to international companies involved in aeroplane and spare parts manufacturing. This decision has been made keeping future requirements in mind, as more aviation-related industries will be accommodated here. The land acquisition process will begin in the next one-and-a-half months,” Arun Vir Singh, the chief executive officer of NIAL and YEIDA, said. The 1,200-hectare land parcel situated between the airport area and Aligarh’s Logistics Park will be acquired from six villages – Ahmadpur Choroli, Mangaroli, Sadullapur, Bhavokra, Alabalpur, and Dyouar.Around 4,752 hectares, out of the total 6,554 hectares initially earmarked for the airport and aviation hub, is to be acquired in four phases. The first phase covers 1,334 hectares for the Noida International Airport, which is under construction at present. The second phase, spanning 1,365 hectares, is designated for an MRO hub, and the land acquisition process is underway. The YEIDA will soon issue a request for proposal (RFP) to select a concessionaire for developing the MRO facility on this land.

A notification for conducting a social impact assessment (SIA) has been issued for the third and fourth phases, comprising 1,318 hectares and 735 hectares, respectively. The remaining around 1,800 hectares is government land.

The newly added 1,200 hectares will be acquired for the project’s fifth phase.

The NIAL CEO said the government was actively working on policies to attract aircraft parts manufacturers and establish a dedicated policy for the aviation industry, similar to the exclusive policy for the MRO industry.
