GANDHINAGAR: Chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday directed the roads and buildings department to initiate a process to blacklist GPC Infrastructure Ltd, the contractor of the bridge whose portion collapsed earlier this week, killing two persons.
The CM also ordered that Mcway Managements Ltd, the consultant for the project, be debarred with immediate effect.
An official statement said on Thursday that a three-member committee was formed to probe the reasons for the collapse of girders of the bridge near RTO circle at Palanpur. Officials have visited the site and collected samples of concrete, steel and other materials.
The samples have been sent for testing, after which the committee will present its findings on the cause of the collapse. “The initial finding of the committee suggests that the loss of life could have been avoided with barricading and better traffic management,” an official statement said.
