CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court-constituted committee on the shorter route from Chandigarh to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport has instructed Punjab, Chandigarh and other authorities involved in the project to come up with definitive land acquisition plans, costs and timelines by next week.
The directions were given in a meeting of the presided over by additional solicitor general Satya Pal Jain in the presence of senior advocate and amicus curiae ML Sareen held at the new UT secretariat on Wednesday. Punjab advocate general, deputy commissioners of Mohali and Chandigarh, officials from CHIAL, defence ministry, IAF and the railways and UT chief engineer were present
The committee was told all the stakeholders, including the defence ministry, have approved a shorter route.
“The committee has asked different departments to come up with their planning for acquisition of land both in Punjab and Chandigarh, and fix timelines. Railways officials were instructed to come up with the plan for the railway under bridge to be constructed near Fadian village, its timeframe and cost estimation,” said an official.
The committee is likely to meet on August 28 or 29. The report on the route has to be submitted with the court on August 31 Jain desired the committee visit the project spot in coming days. While Chandigarh has started the process of land acquisition, Punjab is yet to do so. The state was asked to expedite the process.
